Oscar Oiwa /大岩オスカール

Oscar Oiwa was born in São Paulo, Brazil in 1965. He received his B.F.A. (1989) from the School of Architecture and Urbanism at São Paulo University. He lived in Tokyo between 1991 to 2002, and now lives in New York City while spending part of the year in Japan. His works have been shown widely throughout the United States, South America, Asia, and Europe. Oiwa held his first solo exhibition while in college and thereafter participated in the 21st São Paulo Art Biennial (1991). He received several awards including The Delfina Studio Trust Artist in Residence Award (1995), Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant (1997), John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship and Asian Cultural Council grant in 2001, Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation Individual Support Grant (2021). He has had solo exhibitions in institutions including: Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, Fukushima Prefectural Museum of Art (2008), Japan House São Paulo (2018), Maison de la culture du Japon in Paris (2019) , Kanazawa 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art (2019), and USC Pacific Asia Museum (2020).

1965年、ブラジル、サンパウロ生まれ。サンパウロ大学建築都市学部卒業（1989年）。1991年から2002年まで東京に住み、現在ニューヨークを拠点にアメリカ、南米、アジア、ヨーロッパで作品を展示。毎年数ヶ月日本に滞在している。大学在学中に初個展の後、第21回サンパウロ・ビエンナーレ（1991年）に参加。デルフィナ・スタジオ財団アーティスト•イン•レジデンス賞（1995年）、ポロック・クラズナー財団（1997年）、ジョン・サイモン・グッゲンハイム記念財団（2001年）、アジアン・カルチュラル・カウンシル（2001年）、アドルフ＆エスターゴットリーブ財団（2021年）他から助成を受けている。主な個展：東京都現代美術館、福島県立美術館（2008年）、ジャパンハウス・サンパウロ（2018年）、金沢21世紀美術館、パリ日本文化会館（2019年）、USCパシフィックアジア美術館（2020年）。
